Greta Poortvliet VIEW PROFILE

Obit for Greta Poortvliet:

Greta Marie McWilliams, age 66 of Warren, died Thursday, June 11, 2015 at St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital, Macomb Center in Warren. She was born June 12, 1948 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, daughter of the late John and the late Marjorie (nee: Witte) Poortvliet.

Along with being a loving wife and homemaker, Greta was also a career woman who found great reward by pouring the best parts of her professionalism into her work as an Administrative Clerk in the manufacturing industry. After extending the utmost in dedicated service and loyalty, she gladly accepted her well-deserved retirement.

When it came time to enjoying some of her favorite pastimes, one of the oft chosen was in putting her green thumb to work in the garden. She loved gardening and the joy derived from watching her creative efforts come to fruition. Another passion was often found in her love of reading. She was an avid reader who could find hours of pleasure in simply curling up with a good book and getting lost in the story. And for anyone who truly knew this fascinating lady, they'll be able to attest to what a compassionate animal lover she was. And not merely for animals in general, she was also the proud owner of 2 beautiful dogs,…her blessed "Baby,"…and "Ice" who has gone on ahead, just waiting for Mom to him to be reunited.

Yet perhaps most unique of all was her interest and excitement in watching college football. She and Eugene were SO enthralled by the sport that they would adjust their schedules, accordingly, so as not to miss any of the coveted action. Saturday's were meant for watching football,…and that was it! If you planned on calling or stopping by on Saturday, you were SOL.

So between work, gardening, reading, animals and football, Greta led quite the eclectic life and enjoyed every minute along the way. Though her journey didn't include children, she was blessed with an extended family who provided a great deal of the love that filled her heart. Their shared experiences meant the world to Greta, and her survivor's are now left with the many wonderful memories created together,…memories which will be embraced with each reflection shared. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally.

Greta was the beloved wife of Eugene. Dearest sister of Thomas (Kathy) Poortvliet, Gary (Mary) Poortvliet, and Marilyn (Bernie) Beckett. She is also survived by several loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Visitation for Greta will be held Saturday, June 20th from 10am-1pm, with a 12pm Memorial Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren.
